Helpful Banking...... So they say.

In today's day and age banks have to be really careful with how they lend money. This means looking into situations before making poor decisions. End of the day this is what brought Britain to the crisis we currently have, because of this banks and other company's have been more strict with who they lend money to.

Having saying this though the banks still have an obligation to help its customers when it is needed. Me and my wife went into +NatWest today to talk to them about a loan. Why do you need a loan they asked..... well quite simply me and the wife lived based on our income like most people do. Since April the wife has not been working, I wont go into detail as to why due to personal reasons; leaving just myself to pay for all the bills coming in.

We explained to the adviser the situation, we have approx £600 a month just on non house related bills. I explained we was looking to borrow £5000 so we can pay all these debts off and leave just 1 monthly affordable payment. We also have a couple of buy now pay later items which will need payments starting on shortly. We explained we wanted to resolve this issue before it comes to a point where we cannot pay and end up in debit or end up in a situation where we are in serious financial difficulty.

Before we even began the application the adviser said to us we probably wont get a loan. i didn't like this attitude and asked her to at least try. She asked how long we wanted to borrow for, i replied 5yrs.  She informed me this would mean repayments of £130 per month this i said is a lot lot less than what we are paying now, she then informed us its declined due to my credit score being too low. no other questions was asked.

Usually i'm not one for complaining about not being lent money. However the adviser could clearly see the repayments we have coming out every month, no missed payments, or charges or any other issues. Because i don't take out large amounts of credit my scoring is low. I know this because before getting an item on finance previously i had checked my credit score.

I asked the adviser what we are meant to do?, although we are not in deep crap now we will be very soon. They adviser replied you have not got any credit with us so we cant help you. This is truly a computer says no moment. despite being able to see we would be better off taking this loan and the fact the out goings would be less they would prefer we did end up in deep crap rather than doing what there company catchphrase states, Helpful banking.

needless to say we now need to find another way of getting our self out of this as the bank clearly don't care. my advise don't bother with +NatWest they will simply send u away and leave u to struggle.
